Cheering for your Team!

Downtown

On December 13th, Hamilton’s Professional Women’s Hockey League team will play its first home game at TD Coliseum, right here in downtown Hamilton. It’s a tradition in the PWHL that first year teams don’t have proper mascots and names – so for now, they’re just the Hamilton Team. And fans are pretty excited to see them out on the ice! They will be playing the Ottawa Charge.

TD Coliseum – located only about one kilometre away from the Guesthouse and an easy walk – is not just home to the PWHL. It’s the host stadium of another professional hockey team, the Hamilton Hammers, an affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders.

And it’s not just hockey out on the ice. Of course, TD Coliseum hosts many huge concerts throughout the year, but there has long been a history of sports. Before the Hammers, Hamilton hosted the Bulldogs with the OHL. The arena has also had basketball, curling and Cirque du Soleil! Importantly, the arena is the home ground of the Toronto Rock lacrosse team, one of the most decorated teams in the NLL.

In the East End

At the other end of town, Hamilton Stadium is the home field of both the Hamilton Tiger Cats and Forge FC. The Stadium is about 3 kilometres away and easy to get to by car, bus or bike. Many events even have shuttle services.

The Ti-Cats are a Hamilton institution, loved by residents across the City and cheered on since their beginning in the mid-19th Century. A lot has changed in that time, but not the devotion of their fans. However passionate, they are always hospitable to visiting teams and their fans!

Forge joined the Canadian Premier League in 2019 and have amassed a following. People come to see them play from across the country and even internationally. Like TD Coliseum, the Stadium is also host to huge concerts and special events, such as athletics contests, and even monster truck rallies.

These two huge venues are not the only places for people to enjoy sports in Hamilton. Further afield, the Hamilton Cardinals baseball team plays their home games at Bernie Arbour Stadium on the east Mountain. This stadium is about 10 kilometres away and easiest reached by car. Hamilton is also proud to play host to road races like the ATB, cycling races and even roller derby!

If you’re looking for a fun trip to Hamilton to cheer on your team, we will be happy to host you. You can explore plenty of great places to eat and drink before or after your game, in the heart of downtown Hamilton.
